Plants are a wonderful way to decorate: they add life, create calm and a sense of nature, and improve indoor air. Here are a few ways to use them in an interior, whatever your style and needs.

1. Plant walls and vertical gardens

For a striking feature, consider a plant wall or vertical garden: decorative and space-saving at the same time. Living plants can be planted into special shelving or frames. A preserved plant wall is the practical choice if you have no time for care or the room lacks daylight.

2. Large house plants

Monstera, ficus, palms or dracaena make great focal points. Place them beside a sofa, in corners or as a divider between zones of a room.

3. Small plants on shelves and tables

Succulents, cacti, and moss or preserved plant arrangements suit shelves, side tables and niches. They take little space but add plenty of green.

4. Hanging plants

Hanging plants add a sense of height. Use hanging pots or make a kokedama (a Japanese moss-ball arrangement) so plants float overhead.

5. Choosing planters

Planters are part of the decor too. Pick ceramic, wooden or metal pots that suit the interior, and mix sizes and shapes.

6. Grouping plants

Build compositions by grouping different species. Mix leaf shapes, sizes and colours, and try clear vases for contrast.

7. Plants as partitions

A large space can be divided with plants: palms or other large plants visually separate functional zones.

8. Preserved decor

If you would rather not care for plants but still want green accents, choose preserved moss or flowers for walls, tables or full green walls.

9. Pairing with other elements

Combine plants with candles, textiles, artworks or sculpture; the mix of colours and textures creates a harmonious interior. Above all, choose plants you love and that fit your lifestyle.
